by Fragonard
Acrylic on a duck egg.
Some of Fragonard's other paintings show an influence of Rembrandt. He admired Rembrandt's light effect and his style of paintings, as much as his techniques as his themes. The French rococo was mostly decorative.
Buchair, the painter of the royal houses of Europe, often visited Madame Pompadour, the official royal mistress, to discuss different painting orders, and Fragonard went with him somewhat as an apprentice. In the end however, Fragonard's paintings were beautiful for the eyes, but lacked the complex meanings hidden in the works of most of the Grand Masters.
