Hand
painting on the compound curve of an egg is a challenge to any artist,
particularly as relates to maintaining perspective. Maria Radnoti, a
Hungarian immigrant, has met that challenge.
Many of us have seen geometric designs painted on eggs or the decorations and cutouts characteristic of Fabergé eggs, but Ms. Radnoti is unique in her ability to portray realistic human figures accurately and with incredible detail. Since each of us have such a close familiarity with the human shape, an artist cannot make even a slight distortion of a hand or face without our eyes noticing the flaw. Because of this, we are unaware of anyone being able to rival the realism of the people and places on Ms. Radnoti's egg paintings.
She was first recognized for reproducing the grand masters such as Rembrandt and Renoir with intricate detail, and reproducing paintings from color photographs such as portraits of loved ones, weddings, etc. On a fireplace mantel, egg art becomes a treasured way to remember a special person, a place, or a time in your life that you wish to capture in this unique 3-D art form.
Ms. Radnoti has now coupled her background in research to produce surprisingly realistic renditions of a special memory in a client's mind or heart. She often pours for days over books, pictures, and drawings of a special time or place so that she can faithfully depict the essence, details, and feelings of a chosen scene.
Ms. Radnoti paints with brush and magnifying glass on eggs from quail, duck, rhea, and ostrich yielding works of art from 1½" (4 cm) to 7" (18 cm) tall. All finished art is mounted on a decorative pedestal and encased in an acrylic enclosure for protected viewing.
